LEYTON ORIENT NEWS

Leyton Orient currently sit 10th in Sky Bet League One on 62 points, and come into this match against Fleetwood on the back of a 3-0 defeat away at high-flying Derby County. George Moncur scored an own goal in the 10th minute, with Sonny Bradley scoring a brace to seal three vital points.

The side from East London have won 18 matches all season, with 17 coming in the league. In their last home win, Orient beat Cheltenham 3-1 thanks to goals from Ethan Galbraith, Ollie O'Neill and Ruel Sotiriou. With this their first year back in the third tier of English football, they will want to finish the campaign on a high.

One player for the Cods to look out for is Sotiriou. The Cypriot forward has scored 12 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions, with his last coming in the game mentioned above. Sotiriou has scored a brace on two occasions - with one being in the 4-3 win over Northampton back in February 2024.

PAST GAMES AGAINST ORIENT

Town will be looking to continue their 100% unbeaten record against Orient, where the Cods will be desperate to collect maximum points and a clean sheet just like the last meeting.

Jack Marriott opened the scoring with just under an hour played as he got on the end of a Junior Quitirna’s cross into the box and poked home in a poacher’s fashion, both sides ended the game with ten men though as Carl Johnston and Ethan Galbraith both were shown a red card late on.

Fleetwood first met Leyton Orient in 2014 in Town’s debut season in Sky Bet League One where in the first meeting between the two sides the points where shared.

Stephen Dobbie’s equaliser with ten minutes to go cancelled out Darius Henderson’s opener for Orient - Town got one over on Saturday’s hosts in their next face-off later that season when the sides met next as Gareth Evans’ goal was the only difference in that game, a result Fleetwood’s current squad would take.

Match Reports

Report: Town win away at Orient

20 April 2024

Fleetwood Town picked up all three points on the penultimate game of the season against Leyton Orient.

It was the hosts who started best in the match in E10. Leyton Orient enjoyed a spell of possession in the opening five minutes with Shaq Forde having a golden opportunity to open the scoring, but a miss hit saved the Cods from trailing very early on.

Leyton Orient had another chance to take the lead, this time through defender Tom James. Shaq Forde won a free kick on the edge of the box and The O’s number 2 hit a fierce effort towards goal, but Jay Lynch tipped the ball over his bar to keep the score level.

More chances came for Orient has Ethan Galbraith struck a well-hit shot just wide. Moments later, Zech Obiero turns his man inside out three times and puts a wicked delivery into the area, but Jay Lynch denied Dan Agyei at close range.

Town’s best chance of the half came from the skipper. Brendan Wiredu ran the length of the field and buried down on goal before being dispossessed just before he got his shot off.

It was goalless at the break with both teams coming out for the second half.

Carl Johnston almost put the Cods ahead within the first 10 minutes of the second half. Shaun Rooney whipped in a fine cross and CJ was there to meet it with his head but Sol Brynn made a vital save.

It was Town again who nearly took the lead through Ryan Broom but his volley was again saved by The O’s goalkeeper.

Both teams had chances to take the lead, but it was Xavier Simons who broke the deadlock in the third minute of extra time.

Shaun Rooney pumped the ball into the box, Tommy Lonergan passed the ball the ball to the Hull City loanee and he slotted the ball perfectly into the bottom round corner.

The full-time whistle was blown moments later and unfortunately the win wasn’t enough to secure our League One status next season.

Town XI: Lynch (GK), Rooney, Heneghan, Wiredu ©, Broom (Patterson 76’, Lawal, Kilkenny, Johnston, Simons, Graydon (Coughlan 72’), Omochere (Lonergan 64’)

Subs not used: McMullan (GK), Campbell, Mayor, Quitirna.

Leyton Orient XI: Brynn (GK), James, Hunt (Sanders 79’), Hunt, Beckles ©, Simpson (Happe 79’), Obiero (Adu-Addei 76’), Forde, Brown (Pratley 76’), Galbraith, O’Neill, Agyei (Moncur 67’).
